NextAlim was one of the precursors of the insect sector thanks to its expertise in the production of proteins from larvae of the Hermetia Illucens fly, or Black Soldier Fly.
“By founding La Compagnie des Insectes in 2021, my objective was to participate in the changes in our food system imposed by ecological challenges. Inspired by the incredible potential of insect farming, especially the black soldier fly, I saw an opportunity to transform organic waste and agricultural by-products into valuable resources. It was also an opportunity to make use of the experience acquired in agricultural industry and biotechnologies. This initiative is the result of my conviction that innovation and respect for the environment must guide the future of our food and are great sources of growth.”
Sebastien, founder and president of la Compagnie des Insectes
La Compagnie des Insectes acquires Nextalim and in particular its know-how on the reproduction of black soldier flies, in order to acquire the upper part of the insect value chain. Nextalim brings expertise in genetics and large-scale reproduction, having developed this know-how since 2014, as well as an equipped R&D test laboratory and a 4000m² industrial facility in Poitiers dedicated to the production of black soldier fly eggs.
La Compagnie des Insectes has unveiled its sector model, designed to valorize organic waste into animal proteins through the breeding of black soldier fly larvae. This turnkey model allows anyone to be supported in the creation of a bioconversion unit and to ensure the commercial outlets for their finished products. The objective of the model is to enable the partners of la Compagnie des Insectes to focus fully on breeding, while we take care of the rest.
This innovative project combines farmers, manufacturers and local cooperatives to meet the major challenges associated with sustainable food. By encouraging the development of insect production on Breton territory, France 2030 gives the opportunity to la Compagnie des Insectes to contribute to the reindustrialization of France and the creation of new local jobs!
The acquisition of Protifly marks a new stage in our expansion, and consolidates our positioning as a precursor in the insect breeding sector on a second technological key link, this time breeding (or bioconversion by insects). It also strengthens our ability to respond to the projects of our partners and more generally to the food needs of tomorrow.
